How to Make Money on Fiverr.com
67Fiverr
I'm a firm believer in the relatively new world of an online workplace. The only difficult aspect of working from home is finding the best website or system to use. I've found a few sites that allow you to make exceptional amounts of money based on your own personal effort and dedication. One such site is fiverr.com. "Fiverr is a place for people to share things they're willing to do for $5" while this may be a bit vague (and slightly sexual sounding), it does explain what the site is all about. If you have any unique talent or skills that you'd like to employ but don't know where to start, fiverr.com is your answer. There is no "right" answer as to what gigs you should create. Ask yourself two questions, "Will people want to purchase this product/service?" and "Is this something that makes good use of my talents and resources?". If you answered "Yes" to either/both of these, it's likely to be a good idea.
Now, on to actual examples of gigs made by current Fiverr sellers. In my case, I have a gig to write up to 500 words on any topic that the buyer would like. Since you can add a video to your gig to showcase a few of it's vital points, I decided to hire another Fiverr seller to create a video for me. Here's the video that I purchased to advertise my gig (term used to describe jobs posted on fiverr.com).
How it Works
I purchased the video from another Fiverr seller for $5 (the rate used for all gigs on the website, thus the inventive name of "fiverr") to advertise my freelance writing gig. Although I used his video for my Fiverr gig, it could be used for anything you can think of. Need a video for your business? Want some more views on your youtube channel? Would you like a video of a hamster spelling out anything you want in lettuce? There are gigs for this and much more on fiverr.com.
The system for this is quite simple. Buyers on fiverr.com use PayPal as a payment method, however you can sign in as a guest and pay with your credit/debit card. Payment for sellers works similarly, you link your account to a PayPal account and you can either have your funds sent to your PayPal account or use them to purchase gigs on the website.
As you climb the ranks as a Fiverr seller, you will gain the option to add extras, for an additional fee, to your gigs. These can range from buying multiple gigs at once for a discount, adding time to a video, or adding additional words to a writing gig. This, just like the gigs themselves, is completely up to the seller. You choose what services you'd like to sell, and (once you have the option( you choose what you'd like the extras to be. If you pass a certain threshold of on time completion and buyer satisfaction, you'll be recognized as a "Top Rated Seller". Put enough time in to get this recognition, and you'll truly begin making money. These sellers have sold thousands of gigs, and when each gig earns you $4 (fiverr.com takes $1 commission from each gig), you can easily make a business out of your gigs. The higher your seller the ranking, the more likely you are to have buyers notice you over the competition and know to expect a quality job from you.
How to Excel
Although anyone can make a Fiverr seller account, if you want to go above and beyond expectations and make a living on fiverr.com, you need to follow a few general guidelines.
- Create gigs based on your passions and talents. I personally like to write, so I created a gig for freelance writing. If you like to edit pictures, make a gig for it. Like creating simple computer programs? Make a gig for it. You can truly choose whatever you want when creating a gig, and you'd be surprised at what people would want to buy.
- Unique idea + dedication = success. This is a formula that I follow for most of my life. Of course the idea has to be plausible, but with enough hard work you can make anything happen. You can find things on fiverr.com that you won't find anywhere else in the world, and this is the beauty of it. Don't worry about if you think your gig idea is too unprecedented to be successful. On a website where there are gigs of people scraping your name into a piece of burnt toast, nothing is out of place.
- Offer free corrections. If you somehow mess up on your gig, or the buyer isn't satisfied with the finished product, offer to correct it for free. Your reputation is worth the extra time it will take to fix the mistake, and buyers will be grateful of your dedication to your gig even after you receive your payment.
- Be flexible. If the buyer requests that you alter your gig a little, comply with their wishes. You'll earn a larger rate of return buyers if they know that you're willing to work with them.
- Never give up. This goes with all aspects of life, but especially working online. You can't expect to become an overnight sensation. Working on the internet is all about establishing a reputation for yourself as a hard worker dedicated to the satisfaction of your clients. Hone your skills and perfect your gig, and people will start to notice it as long as you always produce quality work.
- Tell your friends and family, and tell them to tell their friends and family. Creating a gig is similar to creating a business. You need to let people know about it to start making money. Tell as many people as you can, and if you're offering something worthwhile they will mention it to people that they know without much coercion from you.
No set of rules or guidelines alone will make you a Fiverr star, it takes hard work and dedication to achieve that, however this will help you on your way. I hope this gives you a good idea of where to start, and I'll be happy to see you all on fiverr.com.
